Car # 16 - 1997 cayanne-red Mitsubishi GS Tubro Eclipse SpyderI loved this car.  To be honest this was sort of another one of those “drive-by purchases.”  I literally took one look at this car and said to myself “self…you have to get that car!”  This Eclipse was super fast, handled amazingly, was very comfortable and far as I am concerned it is a really good looking sports car.  I wasn’t that crazy about the cayenne red color with tan leather and tan top but it quickly grew on me.  I was living on an island but working on the mainland so driving every day there and back was really fun.  Sometimes driving the Eclipse could be a little to much fun.  I was driving back on 41 from Miami and it was starting to get late.  When the sun sets the speed limit going through the Everglades drops from 65 to 45 and this would make an already painful drive even worse.  I was hulling literally going 120 mph on 41’s narrow two lane road in the middle of nowhere.  There was no traffic so I felt comfortable enough driving like a maniac.  All of the sudden I notice way up a tiny glimpse of what turned out to be a Sheriffs car hiding behind some palms.  I hit the brakes and downshifted as fast as I could hoping that he hadn’t clocked me yet, but I knew I was gonna get hammered for something.  The Sheriff did end up pulling me over and asked why I was driving so fast?  I asked him what he clocked me at and he said that when he started I was going 90 but it quickly dropped to 70.  He was impressed when I told him that when I noticed him I was actually going 120!  I explained that I was tired really just wanted to get home before it got dark.  He told me that some people had just died there the day before speeding and then he wrote me a ticket for “failing to watch my speedometer” which was super cool of him.  It was a minor cost and only 1 point that I had taken off by going to a drivers class.  Yet another Mitsubishi I would rank higher up on my more favorite owned vehicles.
