Car # 10 - 1990 green Mitsubishi Montero
Out of all my vehicles this just might be my most favorite. It was fairly spartan and limited in luxery amenities but it was big, rugged, reliable and just a ton of fun to drive. I was moving back east and needed something I could load up with all my crap but would also be more comfortable in colder, wet weather. I was lucky enough to come across this Montero and traded it for my Wrangler.
I packed up all my belongings and drove straight from Phoenix to Cincinnati only stopping for a few hours somewhere in Oklahoma for a few hours of sleep. I developed a bond with this Montero and owned it for a decent amount of time. It took a huge beating, hulled tens of thousands of miles and could hold 8 people fairly comfortably. One thing it had was this ball on top of the middle of the dashboard. I have no idea what they would call it so I called it a “Oh-Shit-I’m-Gonna-Flip!” ball. It was black on top, white on the bottom and was floating in water. There was a line going through the middle and images around the sides. It was suppose to let you know if you went off-roading what the limit was before you flipped. I never felt like the Montero was going to flip regardless how hard I pushed it.
