My Summer Vacation
At the begining of every new school year elementary students are usually required to write a little story about what they did over their summer vacation. I think before every Labor Day weeked adults should do the same. Most likely it would never read like a kids version: went to the beach, played at the park, visited the grandparents, watched cartoons, slept in, ate pop-tarts, grew an inch, etc. The adult version would read more or less regardless of what time of year it was; got up, went to work, chores over the weekend.
That would be most adults. However, I “work” from home. My two boys were out of the home for a good chunk of their summer vacation…which is coming to an end in 12 days (WOOT!). If I were to write a “My Summer Vacation” summary it would go a little like this:
This summer I played a ton of video games. I meant to work out a lot and lose weight but I only worked out moderately mostly because I was playing a ton of video games. I replayed and beat Call of Duty 2, 3, 4 (Modern Warfare) and 5 (World at War) all on veteran level. I also played and defeated Brothers In Arms plus Gears of War & Gears of War 2 on the Insane level. On Gears of War 2 I have 50 of the 79 achievements. I managed to start the summer with just 1,700 XBOX 360 points and now just two months later I have nearly 7,000. So again, this summer I played a ton of video games.
Since my boys were gone a fair amount my wife and I were able to go out a bit more. Hey, no babysitter means that much more can be spent on dining out! This helped contribute to that “I meant to get buff this summer” failure. We also took a trip to British Columbia that I posted about a week ago. No video games here…just good ol sight see-ing, zip-lining, white water rafting…and eating and drinking.
