Ed McMahon - A Real American Hero

Everyone is yapping about some pill popping pedophile that recently died.  Congress even took a minute of silence in remembering the freak.  God forbid they ever took a moment of silence to remember or honor a vet that had just passed on or an active duty soldier that had just been wounded or killed in combat.  Why is it hardly anything is being mentioned of the passing of Ed McMahon?!

Ed McMahon was a real American Hero and TV icon.  I had always known him for being the side-kick on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and the host of Star Search.  Even commercial for insurance and sweepstakes.  However, I never really knew about Ed McMahon’s military service.

During the Second World War Ed McMahon was a fighter pilot in the Marines and also servied as a flight instructor and test pilot. He was a decorated pilot with six Air Medals and was discharged in 1946 but remained in the Marine Reserves.

After graduating from Boston College he returned to active duty and was sent to Korea in February 1952 where he flew 85 tactical air control and artillery spotting missions. He remained in the Marine Corps Reserve, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 1966 and was then commissioned as a Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard.

Ed McMahon was an active member of the Greatest Generation and will be greatly missed not only for his television humor and wit but also for his amazing contributions to the United States.
